Upcoming Drought Poses Severe Threat to IDPs Without Food Reserves

Baidoa’s internally displaced persons (IDPs) are facing a worsening crisis as meteorologists predict an impending drought. Many families, who rely on subsistence farming, have seen their crops fail due to prolonged dry conditions, leaving them without food reserves. Without immediate intervention, hunger and malnutrition could reach catastrophic levels among the displaced populations.

Water scarcity is also expected to intensify, making daily survival even more challenging. Humanitarian organizations warn that urgent food aid, clean water supply, and long-term resilience programs are needed to prevent a disaster. If left unaddressed, the upcoming drought could deepen suffering in IDP camps, where resources are already stretched to the limit.

Authorities and aid agencies are being urged to take immediate action to ensure food security and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Baidoa’s displacement camps.
